The E.S.R.© Suicide Jumper Prevention Device
last update: 03.16.09

The Electro Safety Rail©, otherwise known as the E.S.R.© device, is an invention that rests as a rail on top of the existing wall along the edge of the bridge. It's a hinged device that would use very high voltage and near zero amperage to shock potential jumpers when downward pressure is applied as a jumper pulls on the device to climb over it.
Some may think shocking someone like that may be cruel and unusual punishment, but such treatment is already legally applied when a taser is used to prevent someone from hurting themselves or others. Besides, what's worse, a quick electrical shock preventing death or having another body floating in the channel?
The E.S.R.© device is bridge friendly in that it has a low profile and would not add too much weight or excessive wind resistance to the bridge structure, as well as allow acceptable scenic value.
